JANN is the open-source analytical publication of Applied Information Services.
Published under The AEROSINT (a Substack imprint), JANN tracks aerospace activity in the defense and intelligence operating environment using publicly available information, signals analysis, and primary source corroboration.
AEROSINT (Aerospace OSINT) is the disciplined application of OSINT methodology to aerospace platforms, flight operations, and civil aviation infrastructure with defense or intelligence relevance.
The term was coined and codified by Applied Information Services. It represents a distinct analytical discipline: not a tool, not a product category, and not a casual observation of interesting aircraft. AEROSINT operates at the intersection of collection tradecraft, pattern-of-life analysis, and domain expertise.
JANN functions as Applied’s published analytical record. Where Applied engagements are client-privileged, JANN represents the open-source layer: verified findings, documented methods, and a record of what we observed, written for aerospace, defense, and intelligence readers, from pilots and mechanics to government counsel and program managers.
The Washington Post credited JANN by name in its investigation into a covert CIA program tied to attacks on fishing boats near the Galápagos Islands.
The story cited JANN's FAA airworthiness-document analysis, which first identified at least three specially modified Cessna Citation Longitude aircraft. One of them was tracked near the boats before the strikes and is central to the investigation. The others are the same modified type, but they were not tied to the attacks. Published August 13, 2026.
